A Family Is a Family Is a Family

Recommended Ages: 5-8

Written by Sara O’Leary. Illustrated by Qin Leng

When a teacher prompts her class to share what makes their families unique, the responses vary widely but share a common thread of love and connection. One child feels worried about her family's differences, but as she listens to her classmates, she learns that every family is special in its own way. Some kids are raised by their grandmothers, others have two dads, and some have many stepsiblings or a new baby at home. As they describe their diverse families—each filled with care and affection—the child comes to understand that as long as love is present, every family is extraordinary.
